Metro North's Leaf Peeper Trains Return for Fall Foliage Viewing

Fall Leaves and Blue Sky

Metro North is bringing back its popular Leaf Peeper trains this weekend, offering New Yorkers an opportunity to enjoy the fall foliage in the scenic Hudson Valley. The railroad will run extra Hudson Line trains on Saturdays and Sundays through November 5th, taking riders from New York City to picturesque towns like Peekskill, Cold Spring, and Beacon.

The Leaf Peeper trains are a part of Metro North's efforts to enhance the passenger experience during the fall season. "Metro-North is the best way for everyone to come see the beautiful fall colors along the Hudson River," said Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi, as reported by MTA's official website.

In addition to the Leaf Peeper trains, Metro North is also bringing back the Laser Train, which helps keep tracks clear of leaves and reduces slip slide. The Laser Train was a big success in 2023, according to Rinaldi.

The Hudson Line, which the Leaf Peeper trains will be operating on, is also celebrating its 175th birthday this year. The line started as the Hudson River Railroad in 1846 and was later acquired by Cornelius Vanderbilt, becoming a part of his extensive railroad empire. Today, the Hudson Line serves as an important artery for customers traveling from the Hudson Valley, providing a reliable alternative to congested parkways and bridges.
