Congressman Pat Ryan announced that federal funding for Hudson River Housing in Poughkeepsie, New York, has been largely restored after previous cuts by the Trump administration. The funding, crucial for providing rental assistance to families, kids, and veterans, was at risk, potentially leaving many without homes. Ryan, along with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, wrote to HUD Secretary Scott Turner, urging action to prevent homelessness in the community.

Three out of five funding contracts have been restored, marking a significant step forward. However, two contracts remain unresolved, leaving Hudson River Housing to cover payments for April. Ryan emphasized the need to maintain momentum to ensure all funding is restored, as staff cuts and uncertainty continue to pose challenges.

According to Ryan's office, the community's response was crucial in reversing the cuts. Schumer stated, "Today we saw what happens when New Yorkers fight back against disastrous decisions." The restored funding is vital for Hudson River Housing, which provides emergency and transitional housing programs.

Despite the progress, Christa Hines, CEO of Hudson River Housing, highlighted the ongoing need for advocacy to secure stable housing for vulnerable residents. The fight continues to ensure that all necessary funding is secured.
