Ulster County Habitat for Humanity is expanding its Ramps Program, offering more opportunities for residents to improve home accessibility. The program provides both temporary and permanent ramps to homeowners and renters, with landlord approval, across Ulster County. This initiative follows the completion of the group's second fully wheelchair-accessible home.

The Ramps Program aims to enhance mobility for individuals with disabilities by constructing ramps with the help of volunteers and skilled tradespeople. According to Ulster Habitat, the construction of a wheelchair ramp is determined at their discretion, and a limited number of temporary ramps are available for qualifying homeowners. Interested individuals can apply for a ramp through the organization's website.

This effort is part of a broader push to address housing accessibility and affordability in Ulster County. As reported by Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger, the county has opened its second funding round for the Housing Action Fund, which supports affordable and sustainable housing projects. The fund aims to ensure that everyone in Ulster County has access to safe and affordable housing.

The expanded Ramps Program aligns with Ulster County's ongoing efforts to create inclusive communities. By providing ramps, Ulster Habitat for Humanity is helping residents gain greater independence and accessibility in their homes.
