New York Governor Kathy Hochul is seeing an improvement in her poll numbers, according to a new Siena College survey released on Monday (April 21). The poll indicates that 48% of voters now approve of the job Hochul is doing, a slight increase from 46% last month. Her favorability rating has also turned positive for the first time since January 2024.
The survey reveals that 39% of voters are ready to re-elect Hochul, compared to 34% in March. Many New Yorkers support Hochul's initiatives, such as restricting phone use in schools and implementing a mask ban to prevent crime concealment. Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg noted that Hochul's proposals have garnered significant support, with eight out of ten proposals receiving strong backing from voters.
Despite these gains, Hochul still faces challenges. According to Marist Poll, a majority of New Yorkers believe the state's economy is worsening, and 60% think the state is moving in the wrong direction.
As the gubernatorial race approaches, Hochul's improved ratings provide a hopeful outlook for her campaign. However, she must continue addressing New Yorkers' concerns to maintain and build upon this momentum.
