Dutchess County is expanding its Housing Trust Fund to enhance housing affordability and accessibility for residents. County Executive Sue Serino announced that applications are now open for a new round of funding, with up to three million dollars available to local developers. The fund, originally established under former County Executive Marcus Molinaro, aims to increase the county's housing supply by supporting both large and small projects, including those in rural areas.
According to county officials, the remaining funds will be used to create or preserve affordable housing. Both private for-profit and non-profit developers are eligible to apply, and small builders are encouraged to participate. Serino emphasized the importance of addressing the housing shortage in the state and hopes the fund will continue to support affordable rental properties and smaller developments, particularly in the eastern part of the county where the need is greatest.
An informational workshop is scheduled for May 5 to provide guidance to potential applicants. This initiative reflects the county's commitment to tackling housing challenges and ensuring that more residents have access to affordable living options.
