In Kingston, New York, Alexandria Wojcik, a candidate for Ulster County Clerk, will not appear on the primary ballot after a state Supreme Court decision. The court ruled that Wojcik, a Democrat, cannot challenge her fellow party member, Taylor Bruck, in the upcoming primary election. Wojcik was initially removed from the ballot after failing to collect the required number of signatures on her nominating petition, falling short by nine signatures from the necessary one thousand.
Wojcik, who currently serves as the deputy mayor of New Paltz, had appealed the Ulster County Board of Elections' decision to disqualify her, but the court upheld the ruling. According to the Daily Freeman, the court's decision came after a hearing on Wednesday (April 30).
Despite this setback, Wojcik is considering further legal action and may run as an independent candidate in the November general election. The race for Ulster County Clerk is important as it involves managing public records and other administrative duties within the county. The primary election will determine the Democratic candidate for this position.
Wojcik's removal from the ballot has temporarily halted her campaign efforts, but she remains determined to challenge Acting Clerk Taylor Bruck in the general election.
