Kingston lawmakers have approved a new set of fines for vehicles left overnight in city park parking lots. The Common Council's decision, made on Wednesday (May 7), introduces a tiered penalty system. The first offense will incur a $25 fine, the second offense will cost $50, and a third or subsequent offense will result in a $100 fine.

The move comes as a response to the ongoing issue of drivers leaving their vehicles in park spaces overnight. City officials recommend purchasing permits for municipal lots to avoid these fines. The new parking fines are part of a broader fee schedule update for 2025, which also includes changes to parking permit costs and other city fees.

Mayor Steven T. Noble announced that the 2025 parking permits will be available for purchase online and will be electronically linked to vehicle license plates. The updated fee schedule is part of the city's efforts to manage parking more effectively and ensure that spaces are available for park visitors during the day.

While the exact date for the implementation of these fines has not been announced, residents are encouraged to stay informed about parking regulations to avoid penalties. More information on the fee schedule can be found on the City of Kingston's official website.
