Poughkeepsie, New York, experienced a series of gunfire incidents over Memorial Day Weekend, prompting an investigation by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department. The first incident occurred late Sunday (May 25) around 11:40 p.m. on Gray Street, where a residence was struck by gunfire. Officers responded quickly, canvassing the area and collecting evidence.
The second incident took place on Monday (May 26) at approximately 9:15 p.m. Officers on foot patrol heard shots fired near Cannon Street and discovered a crime scene. They gathered multiple items of evidence, including spent shell casings, according to CNY News.
The final incident occurred just before 10 p.m. on South Avenue, where a vehicle was hit by gunfire. Officers collected evidence at the scene, but fortunately, no injuries were reported in any of the incidents. The police are investigating whether these events are connected and have urged anyone with information to contact their confidential tip line at (845) 451-7577.
As reported by the Poughkeepsie Journal, local law enforcement is working with partners such as the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to address the violence. Mayor Rob Rolison emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, "This level of gun violence is intolerable."
