Several towns in the Hudson Valley have been recognized as some of the safest places to live in New York State, according to the 2025 "State Safety Report" by SafeWise. Bedford tops the list as the safest town, with a violent crime rate of 0.1 per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 1.3 per 1,000 residents. This marks the second consecutive year that Bedford has held the top spot.

Carmel ranks second, with a violent crime rate of 0.3 and a property crime rate of 3.2 per 1,000 people. Rye follows in third place, boasting a low violent crime rate of 0.1 and a property crime rate of 4.5 per 1,000 residents. Other Hudson Valley towns making the top ten include Hyde Park at number five, East Fishkill at number six, Yorktown at number eight, and Saugerties at number nine.

SafeWise compiled the rankings using FBI crime statistics, with data from 2023 released in October 2024. The report highlights the Hudson Valley's dominance in safety, with seven of the top ten safest towns located in the region.

Residents in these towns report feeling increasingly secure, as reflected in the report's findings that only 47 percent of New Yorkers worry about crime daily, down from 59 percent last year. The report suggests that the Hudson Valley's safety and charm make it an attractive place for those seeking a peaceful community.
