Following U.S. airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced increased security measures across the state. The strikes, ordered by President Donald Trump, targeted three of Iran's nuclear sites. While there is no specific or credible threat to New York, the state is taking precautions due to its large Jewish and Muslim communities.

Governor Hochul emphasized the importance of safety for all New Yorkers. She stated, "We are not aware of any specific or credible threat to New Yorkers. However, given New York’s distinctive global profile, we are taking this situation extraordinarily seriously." The governor has been in close contact with New York State Police, Homeland Security, and counterterrorism and cybersecurity experts to ensure preparedness.

As a precaution, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and Port Authority have activated counterterrorism protections in collaboration with local law enforcement. State Police will continue safety patrols outside houses of worship and other vulnerable sites. Hochul acknowledged the fear and uncertainty many New Yorkers may feel, especially those with loved ones in the affected region.

U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik praised the strikes, stating they made the world safer. Similarly, Representative Mike Lawler supported the action, emphasizing the need to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Congressman Nick Langworthy commended President Trump for his decisive action, saying it demonstrated bold leadership and a commitment to global security.
