Dutchess County is launching a new grant program to support local organizations that provide food assistance to those in need. Announced by County Executive Sue Serino, the initiative allocates $100,000 to eligible non-profit organizations, particularly those serving individuals experiencing homelessness. The funds can be used for infrastructure improvements, such as purchasing freezers, grab-and-go coolers, and food preparation equipment.
Eligible organizations, which must have a 501(c)(3) designation, can apply online until August 5. According to Dutchess County's official website, priority will be given to agencies that demonstrate a strong commitment to providing meals for the homeless. The grants are part of the County’s 2025 Agency Partner Grant (APG): Infrastructure program, which aims to enhance the operational capabilities of local food assistance organizations.
The Mid-Hudson News reported that the Community Development Advisory Committee and the Department of Planning & Development will review applications and recommend recipients to the County Executive for final approval. Awards are expected to be announced in early fall 2025.
This initiative continues Dutchess County’s efforts to combat hunger and improve food security, following the establishment of the Dutchess County Food Security Council in 2024. Organizations seeking more information can contact the Dutchess County Department of Planning & Development.
