Kingston Point Beach in Kingston, New York, is closed to swimmers due to elevated bacteria levels in the Hudson River. The city's Parks and Recreation Department announced the closure on Thursday (July 10), attributing the high bacteria levels to recent heavy rainfall. The beach will remain closed until water tests confirm it is safe for swimming.

The decision to close the beach comes as a precaution to ensure public safety. Heavy rains can cause stormwater runoff, which often carries pollutants and bacteria into water bodies. According to a report by the Daily Freeman, the closure is part of ongoing efforts to monitor and maintain water quality at recreational sites along the Hudson River.

In addition to Kingston Point Beach, several other beaches along the Hudson River have faced similar closures this season due to weather-related water quality issues. A recent sewage main break in Westchester County has further impacted water quality in the river, affecting areas as far north as Peekskill and as far south as Yonkers, as reported by HVNY.

Beachgoers are advised to check for updates from local health departments and the city's Parks and Recreation Department before planning visits to the beach. The beach will reopen once the water quality meets safety standards.
