The Ulster County Legislature has approved nearly $1.5 million in funding for new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. However, the decision has sparked concern over the locations of these stations. According to Mid Hudson News, Republican Minority Leader Kevin Roberts expressed apprehension about the placement of the chargers, noting that they will primarily be in the Kingston area, with one in Ellenville. None of the new stations will be located in the southern part of the county, which Roberts represents, specifically the Town of Plattekill.
The decision to concentrate the charging stations in certain areas has raised questions about equitable access to EV infrastructure across the county. While the funding aims to enhance the county's sustainability efforts, the exclusion of southern Ulster may limit the benefits for residents in that region.
This initiative is part of Ulster County's broader effort to promote sustainable energy and reduce carbon emissions. However, the absence of charging stations in the southern portion could hinder the adoption of electric vehicles in those communities. The county's decision may face further scrutiny as it moves forward with the installation process.
