Newburgh Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Double Shooting

A 33-year-old man from Newburgh named Jason Brown, has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison following a double shooting incident. Brown pled guilty to criminal possession of a weapon after firing a gun at a man and woman, hitting both in the feet, during an altercation on July 31, 2024. After the shooting, Brown fled the scene with another man, discarding the weapon and his clothing. A subsequent search of his apartment revealed ammunition matching that used in the shooting. Brown admitted to unlawfully possessing the loaded gun during his plea proceedings.

In addition to his prison sentence, Brown will face five years of post-release supervision. The incident has brought attention to the ongoing issues of gun violence and illegal weapon possession in the region.
