Another exposure incident has been reported at Fishkill Correctional Facility. On Tuesday (September 16), emergency crews responded after one inmate appeared intoxicated by an unknown substance, and two others required CPR. This follows a similar incident on Monday when several staff members and inmates fell ill due to possible exposure to an unidentified substance.
On Monday, nine staff members were hospitalized after showing symptoms consistent with exposure to a substance that might be fentanyl, although this has not been confirmed. According to Mid Hudson News, one officer received Narcan, a medication used to counteract opioid overdoses. The incident involved five inmates who appeared intoxicated and did not follow staff directions.
Emergency services, including hazmat teams from Dutchess, Orange, and Putnam counties, responded to what was described as a mass casualty hazmat incident. Hudson Valley Post reported that Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino expressed gratitude for the quick response of the hazardous materials team and extended her thoughts to the affected officers and their families.
The New York State Commission on Corrections and Community Supervision is investigating the incidents. Poughkeepsie Journal noted that a hazmat team conducted a sweep of the dormitory involved, but no further details about the findings have been released. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet confirmed the substance involved in the incidents.
