Dutchess County is set to host its final Household Hazardous Waste Disposal and Electronics Recycling event of the year on Saturday, October 18, at the Dutchess County Public Works Facility in Poughkeepsie. The event will run from 8 AM to 12:30 PM and is open to the first 400 residents who register. Registration opened on September 18 and requires a $10 fee per household.
According to Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino, the event provides residents with a convenient way to safely dispose of unwanted items while protecting the environment. Accepted items include pesticides, pool chemicals, propane tanks, and old electronics like computer monitors and televisions. However, items such as paint, tires, and medical waste will not be accepted.
Participants can access the event by taking Route 44 East to Burnett Boulevard and following the directional signage. For more information on how to safely dispose of a wide array of items throughout the year, residents can visit the Division of Solid Waste Management's online Recycling Encyclopedia. The event is partially funded by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
As reported by The Highlands Current, hazardous waste in containers larger than 10 gallons will not be accepted. Residents are encouraged to register promptly to secure their spot, as space is limited.
