Newburgh Man Arrested for Motel Stabbing Incident

A 52-year-old man from Newburgh, Shayne Griffin, has been arrested and charged in connection with a stabbing incident at the Super 8 Motel on Route 300 in the Town of Newburgh. The attack occurred on Sunday morning (September 21), leaving a 40-year-old man with a neck injury. The victim was transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.

Police responded to the scene and, after a thorough investigation, charged Griffin with felony assault in the second degree, felony criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, and misdemeanor menacing in the second degree. Griffin is currently held in the Orange County Jail without bail, following his arraignment in Central Arraignment Part court.

The Town of Newburgh Police, along with the City of Newburgh Police and State Police, collaborated in the investigation. Authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the attack. The police also conducted a search in the area with the assistance of a K-9 unit, which is believed to have led to Griffin's arrest.
