Catskill residents will cast votes for a contested Board of Trustees seat on Wednesday (March 18), as Democrat and current Board Vice President Joseph Kozloski faces Republican Jamie Hyer-Mitchell. The election, typically held on Tuesdays, was moved to Wednesday this year because New York law prohibits voting on Saint Patrick’s Day, which falls on Tuesday (March 17) in 2026, according to NEWS10 ABC.
The race is the only contested election in the village, while other board and mayoral candidates are running unopposed. Polls will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Catskill Fire Department, 1 Central Avenue, as detailed by the Times Union voter guide.
Kozloski, who has served on the board since 2016 and previously from 2005 to 2013, said he has been campaigning door-to-door and at local businesses. He highlighted his work in securing a $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant and bringing $30 million in state and federal funding to improve water and sewer infrastructure. If re-elected, Kozloski hopes to see the completion of Main Street improvements, new sidewalks, lighting, and sewer projects. He said, "I've been talking to quite a few people and they say they will vote. I don’t ask how they will vote because that is their prerogative," as reported by The Daily Gazette.
Hyer-Mitchell, who decided not to seek re-election in 2025 for personal reasons, is seeking a return to the board. She has focused her campaign on affordability concerns, especially housing, and ways to reduce the tax burden on residents. She is also known for her work with animal welfare organizations and helped create a local dog park. Speaking about her campaign, Hyer-Mitchell said, "I’ve been campaigning door to door a lot and just getting feedback from residents and everyone's been pleasant and supportive. Of course, it’s been positive and the village is going in a positive direction."
Other Catskill board and mayoral candidates, including Democratic incumbents Joey Dillberg, Gail Lasher, Kaitlyn Irwin, and Deidre Meier, as well as Republican Mayor Alan Higgins, are running unopposed.
Results are expected after polls close at 9 p.m. Wednesday. Only registered Catskill village residents are eligible to vote in the election.
