Kingston High School graduate Zack Short is starting his 2026 baseball season in the minor leagues. The 30-year-old infielder signed a contract with the New York Yankees back in December and has been assigned to the Scranton-Wilkes Barre RailRiders, the Triple-A affiliate of the Yankees in Pennsylvania. During spring training with the Yankees, Short batted .278 while playing as a utility infielder.

Short has had a varied career in Major League Baseball, having played with the New York Mets, Houston Astros, and Boston Red Sox. According to MLB.com, he appeared in 42 MLB games, batting .129 with 11 runs scored, three doubles, and five RBIs. His most extensive MLB playing time came with the Atlanta Braves, where he played 30 games and made 17 starts.

Drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 17th round of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, Short has also spent significant time in the minor leagues. He played for Triple-A Toledo in 2022, where he ranked second in the International League with 88 walks and was tied for third with 31 doubles.

As Short begins his tenure with the RailRiders, he aims to make an impact and potentially earn a call-up to the Yankees' major league roster during the season. For more detailed statistics and career history, visit Baseball Reference.
