If you are getting rid of any kind of luggage, here's a suggestion: do not take it to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Instead, clean it up and drop it off at your local foster care agency.
Often, foster kids are asked to transport their belongings from place to place in a trash bag.
However, be sure to check with the agency before you do it as some places don't have the space to store such items.
